Inequality as a Cyclical Phenomenon

While inequality is a hotly debated issue in the economic policy debate, the question of the extent to which inequality depends on cyclical fluctuations has received only limited attention. This study examines how cyclical shocks affect household income and expenditure inequality. The focus is on the questions of which mechanisms are active and how important cyclical fluctuations are as factors influencing inequality.
