Against the background of recent developments in the EU - keywords here are the eastward enlargement and the rejection of the EU constitution in France and the Netherlands - the symposium offered the opportunity to take stock, to ask about new challenges and to discuss perspectives. The topic was considered from three perspectives: The first was about the EEA as a legal and economic system and how it functions and how it can fulfil its homogeneity objectives. In the second part, the special features of Liechtenstein and its possibilities for participation in the EEA were dealt with. The conclusion was a look into the future of the EEA in the context of globalization.
