Focus topic

Main Research Area:

In the «Focus Topic» module, the Liechtenstein Institute continuously conducts in-depth analyses on specific economic issues related to the business cycle and long-term growth in Liechtenstein. The analyses and results are published either as larger studies or in the form of shorter articles (in either German or English).

Between 2020 and 2023, a focus topic was defined in consultation with the government every year. Past focus Topics were the investigation of the transmission channels of international economic shocks (2023), sensitivity analyses of Liechtenstein’s economy (2022 and 2021), and the direct economic effects of the Corona pandemic on Liechtenstein (2020). Starting with 2024, a specific annual theme will no longer be agreed upon at the beginning of each year. Instead, the thematic guardrails «business cycle and growth analysis with current relevance for Liechtenstein» are defined as an overarching theme in order to analyze current macroeconomic challenges for the Liechtenstein economy in a more focused manner. This will allow for greater flexibility and a more rapid response to current events. It also makes it possible to analyze several related issues in parallel, if necessary, or to work on one focus topic over a longer period of time.

The module «Focus Topic» is part of the «Applied Economic Analysis», which is supported by the government of the Principality of Liechtenstein.
