While the Applied Economic Analysis research area focuses primarily on measuring and monitoring Liechtenstein's business cycle and growth, the Business Cycle and Growth Research research area aims to examine the determinants and mechanisms of action - both from a Liechtenstein and international perspective - in greater depth. While business cycle research focuses on short-term economic fluctuations (boom/recession, fluctuations in supply/demand, etc.), growth research is dedicated to the long-term economic development path and thus makes changes in the growth of the entire economy or individual segments visible. Growth analysis can be used to investigate other phenomena, such as structural change within an economy.
